Python Issues

Although Webware in general is designed to run with Python 1.5.2 or later, some parts of Webware require Python 2.0 or later. Each of the Webware kits (or plug-ins) have their own properties files indicating which version of Python they require.

While you might want to upgrade to Python 2.0 or later, it may be the case that you already have Python 1.5.2 installed because it is needed to run some programs supplied with your operating system. This is the case with Red Hat Linux and Debian GNU/Linux where certain configuration tools supposedly require Python 1.5.2. You may not be able to just "install over" Python 1.5.2 without breaking those programs.

So, what can you do about this?
